From September 30 to October 3, 2026
Location: Italian Community of Šišan – Comunità di Sissano / Šišan-Sissano (Ližnjan-Lisignano)
Founded in 2012 by the Italian Community of Šišan, the Festival of Istrioto was created to unite the six Istrian towns where this ancient dialect is still spoken. The communities of Rovinj/Rovigno, Bale/Valle, Vodnjan/Dignano, Galižana/Gallesano, and Fažana/Fasana take great pride in preserving this linguistic heritage, recognizing it as a cultural treasure not only for the Italian community but for the entire Istrian region.
The festival serves as a meeting point for Istrioto speakers, who share their activities and traditions, contributing to the safeguarding of their language and heritage. Its diverse program welcomes participants of all ages and local communities, building on year-round initiatives dedicated to cultural preservation.
Through the promotion of artistic expression, cultural projects, and academic language research, the festival helps to revive the use of this unique dialect — particularly among younger generations. Additional events are designed to engage visitors, offering them a rare and authentic encounter with one of Istria’s most distinctive linguistic traditions.
